How does happiness add to our quality of life?

The media has heretofore had a tendency to refer to Stephen Covey as “Dr. Feel Good,” as if there is something wrong with feeling good.  However, the truth is that being happy and feeling good is the way we are wired; therefore, when we don’t feel good we are out of sync and we should take corrective action.  So how do we do this?

Because we are spiritual beings undergoing a human experience we can be in this world, but not of it.  And because happiness is our natural state of consciousness it is not only our right to be happy, it is our responsibility to do so.  The more we practice living this truth and the more we will believe it, the more we will achieve it.

How can we build supreme confidence when overcoming adversity?

Many of us have experienced financial reversals that have severely impacted our sense of self-worth and confidence.  Recovering from significant loss can be, and often is, a long-term endeavor that may be associated with diminished lifestyle and related circumstances.

When we are in the process of overcoming such adversity, it is important to bear in mind that nothing builds our own sense of self-worth as much as helping others.  Even when one’s recovery efforts create significant time constraints, finding time to serve someone else will be time well spent.

It is well to remember that no matter how great the difficulty, there is always within it the seed of a blessing that we will find in time if we are committed to doing so.

How can we improve our ability to achieve our dreams?

“If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with success unexpected in common hours.  He will pass an invisible boundary; new, universal and more liberal laws will begin to establish themselves around and within him; and he will live with the license of a higher order of beings.”  Henry David Thoreau.

Confidence and imagination are powerful tools that we should learn to use consistently in order to achieve intrinsically great objectives and “Live with the license of a higher order of beings.”

When is SMART not smart enough?

The SMART acronym has been around for a good while and people know that it stands for SPECIFIC, MEASURABLE, ACHIEVABLE, REALISTIC AND TIME-BOUND all of which is good, but not good enough because it’s missing another A which stands for AGREED TO.

To be effective, the goal-setting process needs not only to be intellectual; it needs to be emotional as well.  No matter how intrinsically good a goal may be, it will fail unless those responsible for implementation agree to doing their fair share. Leaders must ensure that people buy-in in order to achieve the necessary commitment.  Be sure to make it SMARTA.
