Ever wonder why little old Miss Johnson is always sick?

Miss Johnson is the sweetest person, who never speaks unkindly to anyone and does many nice things for her friends.  However, poor Miss Johnson constantly suffers from colds and is likely to have the flu a couple of times a year.  Yet, while Miss Johnson may have an ineffective immune system, it’s entirely possible that what you’re observing on the outside is not what is occurring on the inside.

It is not uncommon for those of us who may make appearances of one variety on the surface, to be filled with unexpressed anger, resentment and related negativity in their thoughts and feelings.  How safe are the people you know when they walk down the streets of your mind?

How do I change the negative behavior of another person toward me?

If a person is behaving badly toward me, it’s not unusual for me to simply wish that the person would change the behavior in order for us to work together in peace and harmony.  However, something must happen for the person’s behavior to change. And if the change is to be permanent, it must come from a positive perspective.  In other words, the person must change because he/she wants to rather than has to.

Try defying logic. If I make a conscious decision to change my attitude toward the person, and consistently think of him or her from a positive rather than a negative perspective, in time the person’s behavior may change toward me because of the change in me.  This can happen without ever having to address the issue in conversation.

The incredible power of belief

How often do we fail to consider that whatever action we take comes from some belief in our own mind?  If we believe we can, we can and if we believe we can’t, we can’t; even though we probably could.  Paul J. Meyer, writing in The Dynamics of Personal Goal-Setting, had this to say, “Whatever you can  vividly imagine, ardently desire, sincerely believe and will enthusiastically act upon, must in evidently come to pass.”

This is a power that we should be constantly mindful of, lest we allow false ideas to taint our ability to achieve what is our very best.  Without being braggadocios, we should always see ourselves for the good our lives represent.

The Cost of Caring

We know that a true leader must have a good head and a good heart in reasonable proportion.  However, the two domains may not be in equilibrium and if the latter is excessive, the leader will likely pay the price for caring too much.  Part of that price inures as worry and anxiety for the welfare of the team, the department or the entire organization.

Parenthetically, if people are given too much care, they may become less motivated and take advantage of a leader’s caring nature.  The result can be low productivity and a sense of dissatisfaction. People perform best when they know they are responsible for the work they do.
